The BMI, or Body Mass Index, has been the bane of many’s existence.
The number is used to measure “body fatness.”
BMI’s do not take some important things into account, like muscle mass.
A lean 25 year old male can have the same BMI as a 50 year old obese woman.
Actually, determining the body fat percentage is a much better indicator.
However, this number is more difficult to obtain.
It can be expensive, as the equipment needed for accuracy is costly.
Some MD’s suggest using your BMI in conjunction with your waist measurement.
It’s cheaper, effective and explains some of the limitations of the BMI.
