40 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER
Scientists have determined that after age 40, higher level brain functioning notably decreases.
These include activities that require attention, problem solving and decision making.
In other words, the older you get, the more brain power you need.
QUANTIFYING THE BRAIN LOSS
Scientists have been looking to measure this brain loss for years.
They now have an acronym for the phenomenon: HAROLD.
A new study done in Japan gathered 60 men who showed no signs of dementia.
They tested each for aerobic fitness.
Then, they fitted their heads with tiny probes to measure blood flow and oxygen uptake.
Those among the most physically fit, showed that their brains worked like much younger people.
