Are French Fries Really From France?

Are French Fries Really From France?

Yes. But, first a bit of back history.

There is evidence that potatoes were first planted in Peru and Bolivia around 2,000 years ago.

In fact, wild potatoes are still eaten in South America.

Early on, potatoes did not prove to be popular in Europe.

In fact, they were considered pig food.

But, during the Seven Years War, a French army officer by the name of Parmentier was taken prisoner.

He found to like the potatoes he was served.

Once he returned to Paris, he showed others how to cook them by chopping them up and frying them.

They soon became popular with the French street peddlers and the rest is history!
