1.Oregon State University Comes To The Rescue
They’ve discovered a strain of seaweed that tastes like bacon. Recently, they patented a new strain of algae called dulse. It grows wild along both the Pacific and Atlantic coastlines.
2.It Looks Like Translucent Red Lettuce
Packed with vitamins, minerals, proteins and antioxidants, it also grows very quickly. It’s a superfood that has twice the nutritional value as kale.
3.Originally, The Plan Was To Create Food For Abalone
But, that goal changed quickly when OSU’s product development team saw its value for human consumption. Currently, there are no commercial plants in the U.S. that specifically grow this superfood, even though Europeans have eaten it for centuries. Currently, there are a few chefs in Portland experimenting with it.
