When researchers at Proctor and Gamble were trying to figure out how to make folks buy Febreeze, they had to look at the habits of people.

They discovered habits were created via a three step process.

First, a cue triggers a specific behavior.

The behavior results in the person feeling some sort of gratification, so that he wishes to repeat the process.

So, what does that mean in terms of ridding yourself of a bad habit?

You must create new cues.

To do this, disrupt the bad habit to create new cues for yourself.

This may mean to simply change a daily routine to form a new one.

It’s that simple. But, it does take perseverance.
