When researchers tested what happens when kids go on low sugar diets, the results were shocking. The results were immediate and throughout the whole body!
1. 43 Volunteers, Ages 9-18, Were Studied
The testing was extensive. Basic measurements, such as blood pressure and cholesterol counts to bone density measurements. Of course, blood sugar was tested as well.
2. The Kids Also Underwent Extensive Questioning
They (and their parents) filled out extensive diet questionnaires as well as being interviewed by a dietician. A baseline diet was first established. Then, a new diet was developed cutting the sugar from between 10-28%. It was replaced with starch calorie by calorie.
3. The Transformation Was Almost Immediate
After just 10 days, there was a reduction in diastolic blood pressure, triglycerides and LDL or “bad” cholesterol. Glucose tolerance and extra insulin in the blood got better.
5. A Calorie Is Not A Calorie
This study may mean that sugar calories may not be just empty calories, but dangerous calories. It should be noted that the sugar industry calls the study “flawed.” Regardless, it means that further research is important.
