Do you want to be able to move when you’re older? Well, you better start now.
1. How Muscles Work
Muscles are made of fibers. Each of these attach to a motor neuron that connects in our spinal column. A signal is sent through this neuron and tells the muscle to contract.
2. As We Age, These Neurons Die
The fibers also wither and then die. That’s what causes people to eventually become frail.
3. What Scientists Further Found Was AMAZING!
They studied world class athletes that were currently in their 80’s, as well as non-athletes of the same age. They found the athletes had 14% more muscle mass.
4. But, That’s Not All
The athletes also had more motor units. In fact, these folks had a whopping 30% more motor units! Overall, the athletes’ muscles were healthier on a cellular level.
5. There’s One Unknown
Scientists were not able to identify, what if any, effects were due to an individual’s DNA.
