Even the most able athlete is at risk for the flu.

What can (s)he do to prevent it?

The Centers For Disease Control (CDC) offers these suggestions.

One, fight it on a daily basis. Wash your hands well and often.

Make sure you use soap and water.

Avoid spreading germs by not touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

Stay away from those that are sick.

If you have to cough or sneeze, cover your face.

When sick, avoid contact with others.

Clean and disinfect common surfaces and objects.

Take antiviral medication should your MD prescribe them.

These are different than antibiotics.

The CDC has specific recommendations for flu vaccines.

Admittedly, there is a lot of controversy surrounding flu vaccines.

Discuss the issue with your MD and make an informed decision.
