Osteoporosis can cause bones to become weak and brittle; and a simple fall can cause a serious break.

Women are of greater risk.

About 80% of those folks that develop this disease are women.

Weight bearing exercises are a great way to help prevent the onset of this disease.

That includes running, jumping  and  lifting weights.

Interestingly, swimming and cycling are not found to build bone density.

Overall,  exercise improves more than just good bones.

It increases muscle strength, coordination, and balance.

All these things decrease the likelihood of falls.

Good nutrition is vital too.

Drinks that should be avoided are caffeine, alcohol and soda.

Calcium rich foods help prevent osteoporosis.

Some examples of these are green, leafy vegetables, dairy and fish.
