Looking for an easy way to lose weight? Cut down on your everyday sugar. New dietary guidelines recommend only 10% of your daily calories coming from added sugar. It may be easier than you think.
1. Know The Terms
Keywords, such as “unsweetened,” “no added sugar” and “sugar free” indicate these foods have no added sugar. That does not mean that they do not have sugar in them, it’s just that additional sugar has not been added.
2. Expand Your Horizon
Try different types of flavoring to your foods and drinks. You may be surprised that you find new flavors to like. Pretty soon you won’t be missing that sugar.
3. Have A Sweet Tooth?
We all get cravings. Consider switching out processed sweets and sugar for fruit. You can lower your blood sugar and increase your fiber.
4. Read Food Labels
Cakes and cookies are obvious sources of sugar. But, sugars are hidden in many other foods. Salad dressings, sauces, and even crackers often include sugar as an ingredient.
5. Add Your Own Sugar
Foods like yogurt and oatmeal often come processed with large amounts of sugar. Try making foods “from scratch” and adding your own sugar if you want it. There’s a good chance you’ll be adding a lot less.
