Is it possible to exercise too much? Yes! Here’s some signs and symptoms that tell you it’s time to back off.
1.No Interest In Exercise
A sudden decrease in enjoyment or motivation can be a sign of burnout. This is often found in those who are driven by power and/or speed, such as sprinters, soccer players or weight lifters.
2.Recovery Time Delay
When muscle soreness lasts for hours or days, chances are you need more rest. Don’t risk injury.
3.Fatigue
Overtraining can cause both physical and mental grogginess. Don’t try to remedy this by doing another workout.
4.Appetite Loss
In the middle or later stages of burnout, you can lose your appetite. Your metabolism slows, causing a diminished appetite.
5.Weakened Immune System
Over training can not only cause inflammation and injury, it can weaken your immune system as well. Chronic inflammation, alone, has been linked to heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
6.Fat Gain
When a person over-trains, the body starts producing stress hormones. These hormones can cause weight gain.
7.Increased Resting Heart Rate
Your heart can definitely get stressed out with too much exercising. One way to tell is if your resting heart rate starts increasing.
8.Insomnia
Restlessness and insomnia are two signs that you’re exercising too much.
9.Decreased Performance
With overtraining, your workout performance diminishes. This becomes readily apparent with running, swimming and cycling.
10.Mood Disturbances
It’s not just a matter of feeling tired. A person can feel anger, confusion, depression, anxiety and irritability. Why? Blame it on the release of stress hormones.
