Does skipping breakfast really cause you to gain weight? You may be surprised to find out how this thought came about.
1.It All Started In The 1920’s …
Public relations guru, Edward Bernays, started a movement for people to start their day with a hearty breakfast. (Incidentally, one of his clients was Beech-Nut Packing Company, which sold bacon and other pork products.)
2.Next, Came An Onslaught Of Studies
Many of these showed that those who ate breakfast tended to be thinner. Several studies and health authorities supported this idea.
3.However, There Is One Caveat
Experimental studies randomly assigned people to either skip or eat breakfast. In these studies, no difference was found between the two groups.
4.What’s A Possible Explanation?
There’s a theory that people who eat breakfast may practice other habits that help with staying lean, such as exercise and paying attention to what they eat.
