Stress can hurt in a couple of ways. Stress can lead to increased release of cortisol. Cortisol can increase appetite and insulin levels. Also, when we’re stressed, we tend to eat comfort food … and comfort food is rarely nutritious.

Hang in there! As you build muscle, your scale weight may go up. If you want to be more accurate, take body measurements instead (or in addition to) using a scale.

Alcohol can hamper you in more than one way. First, alcohol has only empty calories. Also, it appears to suppress fat burning and can alter your metabolism.

Using a food/fluid diary is both easy and can be extremely effective. You may be surprised at what you’re taking in and when. Remember, certain foods or medications may cause fluid retention. Obviously, you want to avoid foods with sugar.
