New Australian research shows that eating fruits and veggies could increase your happiness.
1.More Than 12,000 People Were Surveyed
In 2007 and 2009, participants were asked how many veggies and fruits they consumed. They also were asked to rate their overall satisfaction with life.
2.Scientists Found A Correlation
People who ate 2 or more daily servings of fruit in 2009 (and did not in 2007) scored an increase of .07 on a 10 point satisfaction scale. Based on that finding, scientists calculated that if a person went from eating no produce to 8 servings a day, they would experience a .24 increase in their happiness score.
3.That May Not Sound Like A Lot, But It Is
That number corresponds to going from unemployed to getting a job. (Unemployment was scored with a .21 decrease in happiness.) Scientists do not yet know how fruits and veggies make one happier. They think it may have something to do with the nutrients.
